Chelsea make enquiries about signing Nigerian midfielder who scored on La Liga debut
Published: October 22, 2024
Chelsea are among the European clubs keeping tabs on young Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche who has had a good start to life in the Spanish La Liga with Getafe.
According to Relevo, the Premier League giants have enquired about the possibility of signing the 21-year-old, who they feel possesses the skill set to play in the English top flight.
Under the BlueCo consortium, the Premier League giants have made it a tradition to sign promising young talents and it doesn't come as a surprise that they have been linked with another promising youngster, Uche.
Chelsea have signed talented youngsters of Nigerian descent in recent seasons, including Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and cap-tied England international Noni Madueke.
Uche is said to be happy at Getafe at the moment and is not thinking about an exit which could prove as an impediment for Chelsea if they are to intensify their interest in him.
He joined the Deep Blue Ones last summer from Spanish third-division side AD Ceuta, and despite having no prior experience playing in the European top flight, he has had a blistering start to life in La Liga.
Uche made his debut against Athletic Bilbao on matchday one and got on the scoresheet, netting the equalizer for Getafe with a header in the 64th minute which set the tone for the season he is having.
He has started every league game for Getafe, and only four players have gotten more minutes under their belt than him so far this season, which shows the level of trust the manager has in his ability.
