Official: Ajax Amsterdam striker Chuba Akpom joins Lille on loan with an option to buy
Published: February 02, 2025
Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) have confirmed the signing of versatile striker Chuba Akpom from Ajax Amsterdam on a loan deal with an option to buy until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The 29-year-old forwar Akpom will provide a significant boost to the Dogues' offensive options for the remainder of the season.
Known for his technical ability, physicality, and intelligence, Akpom is capable of playing across the front line, either as a central striker or in wider attacking roles.
His versatility and ability to find the back of the net make him an invaluable asset for LOSC as they continue their push in Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League and the Coupe de France.
The news of Akpom's imminent transfer to Lille was first reported by transfer market expert David Ornstein.
He confirmed that Lille had reached an agreement with Ajax for Akpom’s loan with an option to buy.
Competition for Akpom's signature was fierce, with Premier League, Championship, and other European clubs vying for his services.
However, Lille managed to secure a deal, with Akpom’s move now expected to provide much-needed depth to their forward line.
The club is also preparing to part ways with Ivorian striker Mohamed Bayo, who is set to join Belgian side Antwerp on loan.
In a statement following the signing, LOSC president Olivier Letang expressed his excitement at Akpom’s arrival: "We have been following Chuba for a long time, and we are thrilled to have him with us. His experience in top European competitions and his ability to play in various attacking positions will bring a new dimension to our squad.
"He has a strong desire to join us, and we believe his qualities will help us achieve our objectives in the second half of the season."
Akpom also shared his enthusiasm for the move, stating, "I’m very happy to be here. LOSC is a great club that plays beautiful football and has achieved great things in both France and Europe.
"I’m excited to start my adventure here and look forward to contributing to the team’s success."
With 99 professional goals to his name, Akpom’s experience and goal-scoring prowess will be key as LOSC looks to strengthen their attacking options for the busy months ahead.
As the club prepares for crucial fixtures across domestic and European competitions, Akpom’s arrival brings new hope and ambition to the Dogues' attack.
