Youngest Nigerian to debut for Leicester City in the PL offered new deal ahead of next season
Published: May 26, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm promising Nigerian fullback Olabade Aluko has been offered a new contract by Leicester City ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
Speaking post-match after his side's 2-0 loss to Bournemouth, Foxes manager Ruud van Nistelrooy revealed a trio of teenagers — Jeremy Monga, Jake Evans and Olabade Aluko — are close to signing contracts, according to The Athletic.
Monga (15) and Evans (16) are set to sign scholarship deals, while 18-year-old Aluko is expected to put pen to paper on a professional contract.
Aluko's rise was further highlighted on Sunday when he made his Premier League debut, coming on in the 89th minute to replace Victor Kristiansen.
Wearing the No. 77 shirt, he became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to make a Premier League appearance for Leicester City — aged 18 years and 176 days.
The previous record was held by Wilfred Ndidi, who debuted for the Foxes in a Premier League fixture against Chelsea in January 2017 at the age of 20 years and 29 days.
A product of the Leicester City Academy, Aluko has earned a new deal after an impressive campaign across multiple youth competitions.
In the just-concluded season, he featured prominently for the club's U18 and U21 sides, playing in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, Premier League Cup, Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
He registered two goals in 24 appearances across all competitions for Leicester City youth teams.
Despite being eligible for England, Aluko has pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria, at least for now.
