'It means a lot to me' - Igoh Ogbu reflects on first trophy and new deal with Slavia Prague
Published: May 28, 2025
Slavia Prague centre-back Igoh Ogbu has expressed his joy after extending his contract with the Czech champions until December 2027.
The Super Eagles invitee, who played a crucial role in the club’s title-winning campaign, shared his thoughts with Slavia’s official website on what the contract extension and a first major trophy mean to him.
"It's amazing for me to stay at Slavia. To continue to be part of this family. It's great, it means a lot to me," Ogbu said, reflecting on his new deal with the club.
The 25-year-old defender joined Slavia in January 2023 and has since become an integral part of the team.
This season, he helped Slavia secure the Czech First League title – the first major honour of his career. Ogbu admitted that the experience will stay with him forever.
"Yes, definitely. I will remember the season for the rest of my life. It is my first trophy with Slavia, the first league.
"I think I will really remember it for the rest of my life, it is the first time in my career that I have achieved something like this," he said.
Ogbu believes Slavia’s unity and collective effort across all levels of the club were key to their success.
“We deserved it because we worked really hard. Us as players, the management, everyone at the club. Everyone pitched in, they did great,” he explained.
When asked what set Slavia apart, the Nigerian smiled and added, “We were the best in every way. From the goalkeepers, to the defense, to the forwards. It was phenomenal. I'm so glad I could be a part of it."
With Slavia now preparing for UEFA Champions League qualification, Ogbu is already looking ahead with confidence.
"I think we are ready for the Champions League. Every player wants to play on this stage. We are ready," he said.
Ogbu’s contract extension signals not only his commitment to Slavia Prague’s future but also the club’s belief in the defender’s leadership and consistency at the back as they aim for further domestic and European success.
