Visa issues: Eric Chelle awaits Getafe's Uche in London, Obasogie to join Super Eagles in Moscow
Published: May 29, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that versatile Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche remains in Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle's plans amid speculation in the local media that he has been blacklisted for missing camp ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against the Black Stars.
Uche, 22, enjoyed a breakout season in La Liga with Getafe, catching the eye of Chelle, who is eager to assess the midfielder ahead of Nigeria's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in September.
As a result, Uche was named in the squad for both the Unity Cup and the high-profile friendly against Russia.
Uche's absence from camp is due to visa complications, which have delayed his arrival in London.
He is expected to join the team in London in the coming days, though it remains uncertain whether he will feature in Saturday's Unity Cup final against Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Amas Obasogie, the Tanzanian-based goalkeeper, will not be available for the match against the Reggae Boyz.
The former Bendel Insurance shot-stopper has also faced difficulties obtaining a UK visa and has been directed by the Nigeria Football Federation to join the squad in Moscow ahead of the friendly against Russia.
Chelle will have only two goalkeepers at his disposal for Saturday’s showdown - Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United and Maduka Okoye of Udinese.
The Super Eagles reached the Unity Cup final after a 2-1 victory over Ghana on Wednesday, with Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers finding the back of the net.
