On October 1, Nigeria celebrates Independence Day—a holiday marked by freedom, unity and warm gatherings.
Streets across the country will come alive with music, concerts and colourful parades, while football fans in Lagos will have even more reason to celebrate.
1xBet congratulates Nigerians on this special occasion and invites fans to share in the excitement of the 1xCup 2026, where teams are battling to progress from the group stage.
1xCup gathers momentum
Of the 100 teams that began the competition, only 24 remain in the group stage.
The players now have an opportunity to prove themselves at a higher level and demonstrate to fans and scouts that they are ready for serious competition.
The tournament has already delivered plenty of exciting moments and dramatic finishes.
Dynamic FC secured a hard-fought 3–2 win over AMA Smile FC after almost surrendering a three-goal advantage.
The home side led 3–0 by the 47th minute, but substitutes Obasi Nnamdi Daniel and Adeleye Emmanuel Odunayo struck in the 63rd and 68th minutes respectively to make for a tense finish.
Dynamic FC, however, held on for the victory.
The match between Ajuwa FA and Tonic FC was equally entertaining.
Emeka Sylvester gave Ajuwa the lead in the 34th minute, but Tonic FC responded with two goals to put the hosts under pressure.
Ajuwa eventually earned a point when Sylvester set up Otto Paul for the equaliser, as the match ended 2–2.
One of the competition’s standout sides so far has been 36 Lion FC.
After a commanding 4–1 victory over Ighalo FA, the team faced a much tighter contest against Maryland United FC.
Soumah Mohamed’s lone goal proved decisive in that encounter.
Collins Edwin SC also produced an impressive display against ECAS FA.
Liadi Shafihi Adisa scored twice within the opening 16 minutes, before Omosebi Damilare added a third to complete a 3–0 victory.
Across the first two weeks of the group stage, fans have seen 50 goals in 18 matches—an average of nearly three goals per game.
The action continues on Independence Day, October 1, with more memorable moments expected before the group stage concludes.
Group takes centre stage
Group A is shaping up to be one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.
After two matchdays, all four teams are separated by only three points.
The standings could change significantly on Independence Day, when Vido takes on BYT Academical FC, while Emiloju FC faces JP Young Stars.
A win for BYT would see the side draw level with current leaders Vido, making the battle for qualification even more intense.
Elsewhere, Newhope Naija FC and Crusaders FC will meet in an important Group B fixture.
The group stage is scheduled to end on October 8.
Road to the final
The 1xCup 2026 final will take place on October 31 by 1pm at the Inspire Sports Arena, Cappa, Oshodi.
Fans are encouraged to follow the tournament, support their favourite teams and enjoy the Independence Day celebrations with 1xBet.
As Nigeria marks another year of unity and freedom, the excitement of the 1xCup promises to add even more energy to the music, family time and celebrations across the country.
