France and Bayern Munich star Michael Olise has stunned football fans after it was revealed that his father, Vincent Olise, was a former international cricketer who represented Nigeria, according to a report by The Sun Sport.
The former Crystal Palace winger has been one of France’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing a key role in Didier Deschamps’ squad as Les Bleus continue their pursuit of another global title.
However, many supporters were surprised to discover that his sporting background extends beyond football, with his father enjoying a successful cricket career before becoming known as the father of one of football’s brightest stars.
Vincent Olise, 66, played international cricket for Nigeria between 1983 and 1993. He represented teams including Lagos State, Foundations Cricket Club and the Nigerian national side during his career.
One of Vincent’s most memorable achievements came while representing Nigeria against Gambia in the West African Quadrangular tournament, where he reportedly claimed 10 wickets in a single innings, matching a record previously set by Chris Enahoro.
Michael Olise has previously spoken about his father’s influence and revealed that cricket remains one of his interests away from football.
Olise, who was eligible to represent France, England, Nigeria or Algeria because of his background, ultimately chose to play international football for France.
