Plymouth Argyle forward Owen Oseni's hopes of receiving a Nigeria call-up for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau are hanging by a thread.
Born in Waterford, Oseni is eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland, Nigeria and Ivory Coast at international level.
However, the 23-year-old, who holds a Nigerian passport, has committed his international future to the Super Eagles, paving the way for his inclusion in the 2026 Unity Cup squad.
Oseni made his Nigeria debut off the bench as the Super Eagles defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in their Unity Cup opener.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that the attacker suffered a training-ground injury ahead of Plymouth Argyle's first competitive game of the season against Exeter City and was subsequently left out of the matchday squad.
The thigh injury is expected to rule him out until the first week of September, potentially coming too late for him to earn a call-up, with manager Eric Chelle likely to have finalized his squad for next month's Afcon qualifiers by then.
Oseni would become cap-tied to Nigeria by featuring in either of September's competitive fixtures against Madagascar or Guinea-Bissau, provided he receives a call-up.
The injury also means he is likely to stay at Plymouth Argyle for the first half of the season as the transfer window will have closed by the time he returns to action.
