Confirmed: Villarreal loan in promising centre-back Eze from Real Oviedo

Villarreal have announced the signing of promising Nigerian central defender Chukwuma Eze on a season-long loan from Real Oviedo.

In a statement on their official website, the Yellow Submarine confirmed that the 22-year-old will join Villarreal B, who compete in the Primera Federación.

Eze joined Real Oviedo from Nigerian club Ajuwa Academy in 2021, and this will be his fourth loan spell since arriving at the Spanish side.

He has previously enjoyed loan spells with CD Llanes, L'Entregu CF and Real Avilés.

The Nigerian defender recently extended his contract with Real Oviedo until 2029 and will now continue his development with Villarreal B in search of regular playing time after featuring throughout pre-season with the first team.

Despite training with the senior squad, Eze has been allowed to leave on loan as he does not feature in manager Julián Calero's plans for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Lagos-born defender already has experience in the Primera Federación, having made 18 appearances for Real Avilés during the 2025-26 season.

Eze has been included in Real Oviedo's matchday squad for 16 first-team games, making one appearance.

He made his senior debut for the club in a La Liga 2 clash against Levante in April 2025.
