Owen Oseni has suffered another setback in his hopes of making a cap-tying appearance for the Super Eagles in 2026 after picking up an injury during the international break.
The tri-national forward made his Nigeria debut at the 2026 Unity Cup, coming off the bench to replace Philip Otele in the 77th minute of the Super Eagles’ 3-0 rout of Zimbabwe.
Oseni was not considered for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, as well as the upcoming friendly against Russia, having only recently returned from an injury that forced him to miss Plymouth’s first six competitive matches of the campaign.
The Irish-Ivorian-Nigerian attacker sustained a thigh injury towards the end of Plymouth’s pre-season preparations.
He made his season debut against Doncaster Rovers before featuring against Cardiff City U21s, Barnsley and Crystal Palace U21s.
According to Plymouth Live, Oseni is now facing around six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury while challenging for the ball with an opponent during the first half of the Pilgrims’ 5-1 win over Crystal Palace U21s in the EFL Trophy.
The 23-year-old made a strong impression in his maiden season at Plymouth, recording 15 goal involvements in 33 appearances and earning his first call-up to the Super Eagles as a result.
Born in Waterford, Oseni is eligible to represent both Nigeria and Ivory Coast through his father and mother respectively.
