Done deal: John Utaka FC product swaps Aberdeen for Neuchatel Xamax

Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Peter Ambrose from Scottish club Aberdeen during the current summer window.

Ambrose previously featured for John Utaka FC, a football club owned and named after former Super Eagles forward John Utaka, before making the switch to European football.

The Nigerian attacker struggled to make a significant impact in Scotland after joining Aberdeen from Újpest FC and secured the move to Switzerland despite an underwhelming 2025/2026 campaign on his return to Hungary.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Diósgyőri in the Hungarian top-flight, where he made only six league appearances, totalling 130 minutes without finding the back of the net.

Despite his difficult campaign, Ambrose has secured a fresh opportunity with Neuchâtel Xamax, with the Swiss club confirming his signing on their official website on Tuesday.

The club view his addition as an opportunity to strengthen their attacking options as they hope to mount a serious challenge for promotion to the top division.

The 1.84m-tall Nigerian striker will wear the number 32 shirt and will be keen to rediscover his best form and repay the confidence shown in him by the Swiss club.

Ambrose will also be hoping to settle quickly in Switzerland, regain his confidence and continue his development as he looks to revive his career in European football.
