'There will be a penalty' - Former Spartak midfielder gives verdict on Russia v Nigeria friendly

Former Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow midfielder Vladimir Bystrov has predicted a 3-1 victory for Russia when they face Nigeria in an international friendly.

The two teams will meet on Tuesday, October 6 at the Sovcombank Arena in Nizhny Novgorod, with kickoff scheduled for 6pm Nigerian time.

Bystrov was asked to predict both the scoreline and a key event that he expects to occur during the encounter.

"I think there will be a penalty. These bone-breakers will 100% bring someone down in the penalty area. And the score is 3:1," Bystrov said on the latest episode of the YouTube show It's Football, Brother!, via Championat.

When asked to confirm his 3-1 prediction, the retired Russia international forward stood by his forecast.

"3-1? Well, yeah," he revealed.

Russia head into the friendly after recording a 2-0 victory over Iran in their last international fixture.

The Super Eagles will be looking to bounce back from their 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of nations qualifiers when they take on Russia.

Nigeria will be without several key players but will hope to put up a strong showing in Nizhny Novgorod.
