Forward who dreams of playing for Nigeria joins Bristol City after leaving Luton Town

With a statement on their official website, Championship club Bristol City have announced the signing of dual-national forward Elijah Adebayo.

Adebayo has joined Bristol City on a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract with Luton Town this summer.

The 28-year-old was born in London to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to represent both the Super Eagles and the Three Lions, but he has expressed his desire to play for the three-time African champions.

"My grandma lives in Nigeria, so the heritage is there. I am proud to be Nigerian and I would love to play for Nigeria. So, it's a case of my mum would be very proud if I play for Nigeria as well," Adebayo told Sky Sports two years ago.

Adebayo has been offered a deal by the Robins after catching the eye of the coaching staff while training with the club during preparations for the new season.

A product of the Fulham academy, he enjoyed loan spells with Slough Town, Bognor Regis Town, Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town and Stevenage during his time with the Cottagers before making a permanent move to Walsall in 2019.

Adebayo etched his name into Luton Town folklore during the 2023-2024 season when he became the club's first player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League.

For the remainder of the 2026-2027 season, Bristol City's tenth signing of the summer transfer window will wear the number 45 shirt.
