'Good to see new players' - Akor Adams reacts to Ilenikhena, James, Usor maiden Super Eagles call-ups

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has welcomed the invitation of new players to the Super Eagles for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. 

Manager Eric Chelle has handed maiden senior call-ups to Alverca left-back Isaac James, LASK forward Moses Usor and in-form Al-Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena.

Adams, who was involved in the Super Eagles high profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June, said he was delighted to reunite with his teammates.

"It feels good. It is also a privilege to be back with the group, and we are happy to be back," Adams told Pooja Media.

The Venezia summer signing stressed that players who are performing well deserve an opportunity to represent Nigeria.

"Really good. It's also good to see new players who are doing well and get the chance to be in the team. Whatever makes us better, that's the goal," he said.

"The coach makes it very clear that any player that comes here deserves it and we are happy to welcome them as well."

The Super Eagles are preparing for two important Afcon qualifiers, with Nigeria set to host Madagascar in Uyo on Friday, September 25, before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.

Adams believes the matches will provide an early indication of what the Super Eagles want to achieve, insisting that qualification is the first step towards competing for the top honours in Africa.

"It's very important because it sets a mark for what we want to do. If you want to be the best in Africa, it starts from the qualification, like the coach has clearly said, and that's what we want to achieve as well," Adams explained.

Adams concluded by sending a message to Super Eagles fans, saying: "Be optimistic. Come out in good support and in good faith to the team because we know you guys support us, and we'll try to give our best on the pitch."

Adams impressed at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he registered four goal involvements in seven outings for the three-time African champions.
