Emmanuel Dennis has returned to the Brondby squad after exploring a potential transfer and training individually away from the Danish club.
The Nigeria international made his first unofficial appearance under new head coach Thomas Nørgaard on Friday, coming on in the second half of Brondby's training match against IK Sirius at Vestegnen.
Dennis joined Brøndby under former head coach Steve Cooper this winter after spending six months without a club.
The forward arrived with an impressive CV that includes spells at Nottingham Forest, Club Brugge, FC Köln and Watford, but his time at Brøndby has not gone according to plan.
Nørgaard praised Dennis' effort but stressed that the 28-year-old still needs time to regain full match fitness and adapt to the team's principles after spending an extended period away.
"I shouted at him a bit, mostly to get him to fit into the team context. There’s no doubt that he’s an individualist who’s been away for a while," Nørgaard told Bold.
"So he hasn’t achieved all that on our principles like the others. He got a little extra help and love, and I think his pulse was high when he played this half hour."
Asked whether Dennis is now on an equal footing with the other players in the squad, Nørgaard said the forward will have to earn his place through his performances and fitness.
"If the players are considered good enough and fit enough to play, then sometimes we have too many, and some have to be left out. Other times it works out. If you recommend yourself, you get into the match squad. That also applies to Dennis."
Dennis is under contract with Brondby until the summer of 2028, and he has made 11 official appearances since joining the club, scoring once
