Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal of the season in Sevilla’s impressive 3-1 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés on Saturday.
Ejuke came off the bench to score Sevilla’s second goal as the visitors secured their second consecutive LaLiga victory of the new campaign.
His contribution was particularly notable after a difficult pre-season period in which he was left out of Sevilla’s training camp while the club worked on his situation and a possible departure.
Ejuke had been training separately from the squad and was not involved in Sevilla’s pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
However, he returned to group training ahead of the start of the league campaign, and his recent performances have given him an opportunity to make an impact under Luis García Plaza.
After helping Sevilla maintain their perfect start to the season, Ejuke reflected on the result and highlighted the importance of the team’s unity.
“We're happy with the game. Six points in two games and a good team spirit. We're already thinking about the next one,” Ejuke told the club's website.
The Nigerian winger also explained his approach to his role within the team, stressing his willingness to contribute whenever he is called upon.
“I always try to be available to help the team in any way I can. In the two games we've played here, I've been able to help the team, and I'm very happy about that. I wanted to play my game, stay focused, and give it my all,” he added.
Ejuke’s goal was part of a strong Sevilla performance that secured a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club.
Oso opened the scoring before Ejuke doubled Sevilla’s lead, while Isaac Romero added the third. Aitor Paredes scored Athletic Club’s consolation goal.
