Nigerian football journalist Colin Udoh has revealed that he has been informed that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and members of the federation’s Executive Committee have resigned amid mounting pressure on the leadership.
The development comes after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the future of the NFF board following a series of disappointing results involving Nigeria’s national teams.
Recent reports had indicated that several board members were already considering stepping down to pave the way for a restructuring of Nigerian football.
The pressure intensified following the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, ending Nigeria’s run of appearances at every edition of the tournament since its inception in 1991.
The Super Falcons missed out on automatic qualification after their quarter-final exit at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco before suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the subsequent World Cup play-off.
In a post on social media, Udoh revealed that a senior National Sports Commission (NSC) official had informed him of the reported resignation.
“I have just been informed by a top @NatSportsComm official that @thenff President @IbrahimMusaGus1 and board have resigned,” Udoh wrote.
“I have tried to reach Gusau for confirmation. Haven’t heard back from him yet. The NSC official says it is the first step towards restructuring the NFF. All will be clearer by end of the day today.”
The NFF leadership had faced increasing criticism after the Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while other national teams have experienced difficulties in recent international competitions.
With the NFF election scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the reported resignation could pave the way for a major restructuring of the federation’s leadership and administration.
