Nigeria’s Flamingos maintained their perfect start to the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup with a 2-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire in Yamoussoukro.
The Flamingos entered the encounter as the competition’s leading side after winning their opening three matches against Niger Republic, Ghana and Burkina Faso.
They were looking to extend that run against the host nation, having already established themselves as one of the leading contenders in the tournament.
Nigeria made a bright start and took the lead in the fourth minute through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi.
The FC Robo Queens forward finished an early opportunity to put the Flamingos ahead and give them an ideal start to the contest.
Côte d’Ivoire attempted to respond as the first half progressed, but Nigeria protected their advantage and went into the interval with a 1-0 lead.
The hosts continued to search for an equaliser after the restart, while the Flamingos remained disciplined as they looked for another opening to put the result beyond doubt.
Nigeria eventually secured the second goal in the 83rd minute when Pattra Oparanmegwa found the net to extend the advantage to 2-0.
The late strike gave the Flamingos breathing room during the closing stages as they held on to claim another important victory.
The result marked Nigeria’s fourth consecutive win in the competition and further strengthened their position at the top of the standings.
