'Quite dangerous' - NEC coach warns his players to keep their eyes on Ajax striker Arokodare

NEC coach Dick Schreuder has warned his players about the attacking threat posed by Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare ahead of their Eredivisie encounter against Ajax.

Schreuder praised the Nigerian striker’s physical presence, movement and ability to trouble defenders as NEC prepare to face the Amsterdam club at the Johan Cruijff ArenA following the international break.

The NEC manager believes his side must prevent Ajax from creating opportunities inside the penalty area, particularly because of the danger Arokodare poses in front of goal.

“Letting Ajax get into our own penalty area isn't very smart either. Especially not with their striker. He is tall, dominant, and also quite dangerous in every run he makes. He is very difficult to defend against," he said, as quoted by Forzanec.

Arokodare has made an impressive start to life at Ajax since joining the Dutch club on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals in six Eredivisie appearances this season, while also registering one assist in the league.

His contributions have helped establish him as an important attacking option for Ajax after a difficult spell in the Premier League with Wolves.

Across all competitions, the Nigerian forward has scored six goals and provided two assists in nine appearances, emphasizing his improved form since returning to Dutch football.

His performances have also strengthened his position in Nigeria’s national team setup.

Arokodare earned a recall to the Super Eagles squad for the September international fixtures, returning to the team after his previous involvement in 2025.
