Kalmar Almost Give Up On Signing Taiwo Awoniyi
Published: April 07, 2015
Kalmar sporting director Thomas Andersson Borstam has confessed that it would be difficult to sign professional terms with Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi because several big teams have expressed an interest in his signature.
And that is understandable as the United Academy starlet put himself in the shop window during the African Youth Championship, scoring three goals for the African champions.
“He did very well in the African U20 Championships and he has not gone unnoticed, big clubs also have an eye on him now.
“We get to see a bit where it lands with Taiwo. Now comes the U20 World Cup and if he has a good tournament it may be a hard nut for us to handle. But we will continue to keep in touch,” Thomas Andersson Borstam told 24kalmar.se.
Kalmar will have a meeting with representatives of Taiwo Awoniyi in the coming days to know where they stand as regards to the acquisition of the Nigeria Under 20 international.
“Things change in this industry and we understand the situation considerably, larger clubs come into the picture.
“ We will soon have a meeting scheduled with Taiwo’s advisor so we’ll see where he will play,” Thomas Andersson Borstam added.
According to reports, several teams in England, France, Portugal and Greece are in touch with Taiwo Awoniyi’s camp over a contract.
