Chelsea plan to use Nigeria international Mikel Obi , 28, as makeweight in their bid to bring Southampton.midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Stamford Bridge in the summer, if we are to believe reports in England.
According to The Sun, manager Jose Mourinho has made the signing of a midfielder one of his priorities when the transfer market reopens and has beamed his searchlight on the France national - teamer.
Mikel has been continuously linked with a departure from The Blues in recent season, with the likes of Monaco, Inter Milan, Galatasaray and an unnamed Russian Premier League club all thought to be monitoring his situation.
No thanks to injuries and the form of Nemanja Matic, the Super Eagles star has seen his first team opportunities limited this season, with only 481 minutes of game time under his belt .
The defensive midfielder is tied to Chelsea until the summer of 2017.
