Godwin Kanu Denies Ex Arsenal Hero Nwankwo Kanu Has Abandoned Extended Family Ala Emmanuel Adebayor
Published: July 15, 2015
Nwankwo Kanu’s elder brother, Godwin Kanu, has vehemently denied accusations that the retired Nigeria international is not fending for his extended family based in Imo State.
The former Arsenal, Inter Milan and Ajax Amsterdam star is a multi-millionaire but it is thought that the wealth he accumulated over the years , especially during his playing days, is not rubbing off on his family.
The ex African Footballer of the Year picked the nickname Papilo from his elder brother, Godwin. However, the original Papilo is barely making ends meet by engaging in petty trading.
“ He (Nwankwo Kanu) is taking care of us very well, he bought a house for me, a duplex, ” said Godwin Kanu to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I have a mini - supermarket, people must talk. I will invite you to my shop to see if I’m suffering. I am not suffering. I am okay, I am a landlord. He has some properties here that I am controlling.
“I don’t like to brag or I can be kidnapped in Owerri. There are (some) bad people here.
“What other thing do I want in life ? Even the people talking have problems in their families. ”
Reacting to the statements published above, allnigeriasoccer.com’s informant said Godwin Kanu is being economical with the truth.
“Godwin Kanu is an Igbo man, he doesn’t want to disgrace his brother. They are different from other tribes. Look at his shop, does it look like someone that is enjoying benefits from Kanu.
“The thing is that we all know Kanu is a star and was well paid during his playing days but look at the state of his brother.
“He sells Felele football, daily needs like tea, sugar, milk and bread. Kanu’s wealth has never reflected on any of his family members except Ogbonna.
“Their mom before she got late was selling at Amakohia Market, popularly known as Eke Megbu or Ahia Amakohia,” the top source said.
These days, Nwankwo Kanu is ambassador of the Nigeria national teams and was in Brazil last year to motivate the Super Eagles.
