Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme made his debut for the Super Eagles in place of Lille’s Vincent Enyeama, who withdrew from the squad following the passing away of his mother.
The Sutton Coldfield - born player earned rave reviews for his fantastic performance against the Taifa Stars despite the goalless draw and manager Sunday Oliseh spoke highly of the shot - stopper in his post - match comments.
Shortly after the squad arrived in Port Harcourt on Sunday morning, Carl Ikeme took to social media to express his delight at playing his first game for Nigeria and thanked everyone who stood by him.
“Great honour to make my debut for the @NGSuperEagles . Thanks to my family, friends and fans for your support â�¤ï¸�ð���ð��¾,” Carl Ikeme said.
The 29 - year - old could earn his second cap on Tuesday when the Super Eagles tackle Niger Republic in an international friendly.
