Dream Team Finish In Third Place At All - Africa Games
Published: September 17, 2015
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel’s heroic performance against Congo assisted the Dream Team win bronze at the All - Africa Games on Thursday evening.
The major talking point before the tie at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat, Brazzaville was the injuries sustained by four key players of the Dream Team but the squad refused to throw in the towel after NFF President Amaju Pinnick made a phone call to coach Samson Siasia before the start of the game.
On 31 minutes, new CS Sfaxien signing Junior Ajayi would has given Nigeria the lead but he fluffed his lines after being set up by the unselfish Mustapha Abdullahi, and three minutes before half time Sincere Seth missed another golden opportunity.
The second half still failed to separate the two teams and the match went to penalties.
In that order Daniel, Atanda, Sokari, Obanor and Pyagbara converted their spot kicks while Emmanuel Daniel stopped the second kick taken by the Congolese team.
