Nigerian-Born Defender Kigbu Growing By Leaps And Bounds At Manchester City
Published: July 17, 2016
Ashinme Kigbu was named in the starting XI as Manchester City Elite Development Squad earned a 6-0 win over Czech First League club FC Slovacko in their first pre-season fixture on Sunday.
Last term, the central defender made an impact for City’s U18s team and might be promoted to the EDS squad in the forthcoming season if he impresses the manager at pre-season.
In today’s friendly held in Novigrad, Croatia, the 17-year-old was among the four players named in the starting line-up that stepped out onto the pitch before the start of the second half, the others being Haug, Bullock and Wood.
At the age of seven, Kigbu was scouted by both Manchester United and Manchester City before he opted for the Red Devils, then joined their bitter rivals during the 2011-2012 campaign.
Born in Jos, he signed a scholarship deal with City in 2015.
