Chelsea Star Mikel Confident Nigeria Will Qualify For World Cup
Published: October 10, 2016
Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is confident the Super Eagles will
qualify for the 2018 World Cup despite being pitted in the same group
with two African football superpowers Algeria and Cameroon.
In their opening match of the qualifiers on Sunday, Nigeria registered an impressive 2-1 win over Zambia in Ndola to move top of the group after Cameroon and Algeria shared the spoils in the other fixture.
“Even though the Eagles are in tough group, the players have resolved to grab the qualification ticket in the group,” Mikel told reporters on Sunday.
“I’m excited with young boys in the new Eagles and the current setting of the team reminds me of my days as a new entrant in the Super Eagles.
“I express gratitude to Nigerians and the government for moral and financial support to the squad.”
