CAF Awards : Arsenal Starlet Iwobi Replaces Osimhen As Youth Player Of The Year
Published: January 05, 2017
Arsenal whizkid Alex Iwobi has been named the Youth Player of the Year for 2016 by CAF at their annual awards ceremony in Abuja on Thursday night.
The attacking midfielder is the third Nigerian to win the award, following in the footsteps of Arsenal Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala (2014) and Wolfsburg new signing Victor Osimhen (2015).
Iwobi beat Sandra Owusu-Ansah (Ghana & Supreme Ladies) and Ghana U17 captain Eric Ayiah for the award.
Unfortunately, the Hale End Academy product was not available to personally receive the award due to commitments with Arsenal.
In 2016, Iwobi made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles and netted his maiden goal for the national team in a World Cup qualifier versus Zambia.
