Published: May 30, 2017
Real Salt Lake star Sunday Stephen has been named in Major League Soccer's Team of the Week for the latest round of matches in the American topflight.
The Nigeria international produced one of his best performances in a Real Salt Lake jersey, helping goalkeeper Nick Rimando to keep a cleansheet in their 1-0 win over Oguchi Onyewu's Philadelphia Union at Rio Tinto Stadium.
In a 4-5-1 formation, Sunday Stephen occupied one of the defensive midfield spots.
The former Spain youth-teamer completed 27 of 34 passes, won three tackles, intercepted four passes in RSL's defensive third and had two clearances from inside RSL's box.
The 28-year-old was a member of the Spanish U20 squad at the 2007 Fifa U20 World Cup in Canada, a team that included Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and Manchester United's Juan Mata.
Sunny represented teams in Spain, Israel, Bulgaria and Turkey before he was acquired by Real Salt Lake in 2016.
