NFF Shed Light On Omission Of Chelsea Defender Aina From Nigeria's Latest Roster
Published: June 01, 2017
The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed that the promising Chelsea wing-back Ola Aina was omitted from the Super Eagles 23-man roster to face South Africa because his application for a change of allegiance from England to Nigeria has not been approved by Fifa.
For the same reason, the former England U19 skipper did not bother to attend the national team's get-together in Paris though he was invited by manager Gernot Rohr.
''The selection of the players is the sole responsibility of the technical crew, headed by the technical adviser (Rohr),'' NFF Technical Director Bitrus Bewarang said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
''If his name is not included, it means either the process (to change allegiance) was not completed or the TA might have picked someone else.''
A top source, who played a key role in convincing Ola Aina to play for the Super Eagles, has made it crystal clear that the defender remains interested in representing Nigeria ahead of the Three Lions.
