Nigeria International, Who Played On Same Team As Man Utd's Juan Mata, Banned In The USA
Published: June 03, 2017
Nigeria international Sunday Stephen has been suspended for one game and issued an undisclosed fine by the Disciplinary Committee of Major League Soccer.
The central midfielder was punished for an incident that occurred during the 54th minute of Salt Lake's game against Houston Dynamo on May 31 in which he endangered the safety of an opponent.
As a result of the suspension, Sunday Stephen will miss Real Salt Lake's game against FC Dallas at the Toyota Stadium (Frisco, Texas) on Saturday
The 28-year-old was issued a yellow card versus Houston Dynamo, and would have missed the tie against Dallas due to an accumulation of yellow cards, but will now return to four yellow cards for the sake of accumulation and will be suspended upon receipt of his next yellow card.
A former Spain U20 international, Sunny represented the country at the 2007 Fifa U20 World Cup along with Manchester United's Juan Mata.
He was recently named in Major League Soccer's Team of the Week for his outstanding display against Philadelphia Union.
