Arsenal Target Henry Unfazed by Presence Of Iheanacho, Iwobi; Eyes Competitive Debut Vs RSA
Published: June 03, 2017
Arsenal linked striker Henry Onyekuru is targeting his competitive Super Eagles debut when they trade tackles with South Africa in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo in a week's time.
If the Eupen wonderkid does well in training, manager Gernot Rohr may be tempted to field him from the very beginning against Bafana Bafana, after his appearance off the bench against Togo in a friendly at the start of this month.
''I would be happy. It is a great pleasure to be part of the team representing the country. It’s a good feeling,'' Henry told thenff.com.
''And it's always the first dream of every young player to represent his country, to wear the green shirt.
''Seeing your family happy and giving them joy is a good feeling and I am very happy that I made the team for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.''
Onyekuru replaced Oghenekaro Etebo in the 58th minute of Nigeria's 3-0 thrashing of Togo in Paris, his maiden appearance for the three-time African champions.
Kelechi Iheanacho (Man City), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) and Ahmed Musa (Leicester City) are among the seven strikers named in the Super Eagles latest roster.
