English-Born Nigerian Striker Officially Departs Chelsea After Thirteen Years, Joins Liverpool
Published: July 01, 2017
England U20 star of Nigerian heritage Dominic Solanke finally ended his thirteen-year association with Premier League champions Chelsea on Friday, June 30.
In the coming days, Liverpool will reconfirm the signing of the Golden Ball winner at the 2017 Fifa Under 20 World Cup in South Korea, and the duration of contract he has signed.
The Professional Football Compensation Committee will have to meet to decide the true valuation of Solanke as Liverpool have not yet agreed a transfer fee with Chelsea.
Despite his huge potential, the striker did not make a single appearance for the first team of Chelsea last season, and the reasoning behind it seems to be due to his contract situation.
Solanke had been tipped as one to watch at Stamford Bridge after making his competitive debut for the Blues in a Champions League tie against NK Maribor a month after his seventeenth birthday.
He was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year for the 2014-2015 season.
