Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona Stars Feature As England Exit Euros In Semifinal
Published: August 03, 2017
England's Lionesses have failed to advance to the final of the 2017 UEFA Women's Championship following their 3-0 loss to the Netherlands in the semifinal on Thursday night.
Manager Mark Sampson named Arsenal trio Jordan Nobbs, Fara Williams and Jodie Taylor in his starting line-up, and there were also starts for Liverpool's Shanice Van De Sanden and Chelsea's Millie Bright and Fran Kirby.
The hosts took the lead through Miedema in the 22nd minute, and Van de Donk doubled the advantage after latching onto a backpass just after the hour mark.
Barcelona striker Toni Duggan was introduced in the 67th minute as Sampson looked to add more bite in attack.
An own goal scored by Bright deep in injury time sealed the fate of the Lionesses.
In Sunday's showpiece game, the Netherlands will trade tackles with Denmark at De Grolsch Veste, Enschede.
