Arsenal Next Big Hope Beats Chelsea Starlet, 6 Others To PL2 POTM
Published: September 08, 2017
Arsenal's rising star Reiss Nelson has been rewarded for his blistering start to the season, with the Premier League naming him the most outstanding player in the Premier League 2 for the month of August.
To win the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award, the England U18 international saw off competition from seven other nominees including Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu, Blackburn Rovers’ Joseph Nuttall, Fulham’s George Williams and Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier.
The 17-year-old Nelson has scored in each of his last three games for Arsenal's U23 squad, and is the leading marksman in the league with five goals even though he is an attacking midfielder.
He scored braces against Derby County and Manchester City, before netting his fifth of the season versus Ovie Ejaria's Liverpool .
The shortlist and winner was selected by a panel of the Premier League Football Development Department after PL2 club managers had nominated the best individual performance from each of their opponents during the month.
Reiss Nelson trained with the first team of Arsenal in pre-season.
