U17 World Cup: Akinola Comes Close To Scoring A Beauty For USA In Win Vs India
Toronto FC striker Ayomide Akinola helped the United States to register a comfortable 3-0 win over hosts India in their opening game of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Though the Golden Eaglets will not be defending the trophy in India, there's still Nigerian interest with Tottenham Hotspur defender Timothy Eyoma and Akinola set to feature for England and USA respectively.

The Americans were slightly superior than the Indians but managed to score only one goal from the penalty spot through Josh Sargent on the half-hour mark.

And they doubled their advantage when DC United midfielder Chris Durkin slammed the ball home despite several Indian players in the penalty area six minutes into the second half.

Timothy Weah thought he had increased the lead but his effort was ruled out for offside on 54 minutes.

Akinola was close to scoring his first goal in the competition, he went for a chip but could not get it right after sliding the ball with the outside of his boot just past the hour mark.

Andrew Carleton made it three six minutes from time, rounding the goalkeeper before coolly slotting the ball into the empty net.

Ayomide Akinola was replaced in the 66th minute.
