Man City Star Aguero Saw Gabriel Jesus As His Main Rival Not Iheanacho
Published: November 08, 2017
Manchester City's Argentina international Sergio Agüero considered Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Jesus as his main rival to lead the attack of the Citizens during Kelechi Iheanacho's last season with the club.
Iheanacho saw the handwriting on the wall that he was no longer wanted at the Etihad Stadium after City completed the signing of Jesus in the January transfer window.
''When he (Guardiola) came there was no other striker until Gabriel Jesus arrived and that's when the competition started, there was a lot of talk, but the reality is that Guardiola is resting, rotating and demanding that we recover well for the next game,'' said Aguero to TYC Sports.
''The Cup 120 minutes and I could not be in the Premier League, for example''.
Iheanacho and Agüero are in line to feature for the Nigerian and Argentinian national teams when both countries face off in a pre-World Cup friendly in Russia next Tuesday.
The Super Eagles star ended his association with Man City in the summer transfer window by penning a five-year contract with Leicester City.
