Manchester United Attempted To Sign Ex-Nigeria U20, U23 Skipper
Published: November 09, 2017
Premier League giants Manchester United attempted to sign former Nigeria U20 and U23 skipper Isaac Promise in the past, according to The Sun.
The English newspaper has reported that Manchester United arranged for Nigerian youth-team captain Isaac Promise to travel with Mikel after the 2003 Fifa U17 World Cup.
The pair returned to Nigeria after training with the Old Trafford outfit for one month, before United ran the rule over the two players for three weeks upon their return to England.
While Manchester United maintained their interest in Mikel and would have completed his signing two years after trialing with the club, they cooled their interest in Isaac Promise.
As at that time, Mikel and Promise were still minors and it would have been illegal for Manchester United to sign the players.
Promise signed his first professional contract with Gençlerbirliği in 2005, followed by spells at Trabzonspor, Manisaspor, Antalyaspor, Al Ahli, Balıkesirspor, Karabükspor and Giresunspor.
