Injured Mikel Agu Forced To Depart Eagles Camp, Not On The Plane To Algeria
Published: November 09, 2017
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Porto loanee Mikel Agu has finally departed the Super Eagles camp, and was not on the plane to Constantine ahead of Friday evening's World Cup qualifying match against Algeria.
The Bursaspor midfielder was forced to withdraw from the roster after picking up a knee injury while representing his Turkish club last weekend.
The 24-year-old had wanted to travel to Algeria with his international teammates, but Bursaspor medics insisted that he must return to Turkey to start receiving treatment.
Mikel may not be a popular selection with the Super Eagles faithful, but manager Gernot Rohr has kept faith with him nonetheless, picking him on the roster for the last five matches and playing him in four.
He has been an ever-present in Bursaspor squad since he completed his loan move, starting all their matches in the Super Lig but had to be substituted at half-time against Kasimpasa after feeling pains.
John Ogu, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Chidiebere Nwakali are the players classed as midfielders by the Nigeria Football Federation that are available for selection.
