Ampadu Overtakes C. Babayaro, Becomes Chelsea's Youngest Ever International
Published: November 12, 2017
Chelsea wonderkid Ethan Ampadu made his debut for the senior national team of Wales in their 2-0 loss to France in an international friendly staged at the Stade de France on November 10.
In doing so, the defensive midfielder, who played the last 26 minutes against the 1998 World Cup winners, became Chelsea's youngest ever international footballer aged just 17 years and 57 days, according to ChelseaChadder.
Prior to his first game for the Dragons, Ampadu had been knocking on the door since the start of this season as he was a non-playing substitute in their World Cup qualifiers against Austria, Moldova, Georgia and Ireland.
Celestine Babayaro is the youngest Nigerian player in history to have an international cap while on the books of Chelsea, whom he joined in the summer of 1997.
The left-back first appeared for the Super Eagles in an Afro-Asian Championship clash against Uzbekistan on November 10, 1995, aged 17 years and 73 days, exactly twenty two years before Ampadu played his first game for Wales.
