Amkar Perm : Brian Idowu Will Remain A Russian Whether Or Not He Faces Argentina
Published: November 12, 2017
Russian Premier League club Amkar Perm have celebrated the call-up of their player Brian Idowu to the Nigerian national team for the first time in his career, ahead of the upcoming friendly against Argentina.
However, Amkar Perm have stressed that Idowu will be classed as a Russian player for their games in the Premier League, whether or not he debuts against the South Americans as he is in the possession of a Russian passport.
For the 2017-2018 season, the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) still adopted the 6 + 5 rule, in which there can be a maximum of six foreigners and at least five Russians on the pitch.
''Defender of Amkar Brian Idowu was summoned to the national team of Nigeria for a friendly match with the national team of Argentina,'' stated Amkar Perm on their official webpage.
''Opponents will meet on Tuesday, November 14, in Krasnodar.
''We draw your attention, the participation of the 19th number of the red-black in the friendly game will not affect his status of a Russian in games for the club.''
The 25-year-old Idowu was born in St. Petersburg, Russia to a Nigerian father and his mother is half-Russian, half-Nigerian.
