Exclusive: Rohr Has Starting XI In Mind: Akpeyi, Aina, Mikel Team A; Ezenwa, Tony & Etebo Sent To Team B
Published: November 13, 2017
The Nigerian national team held their final training session of 2017 at the Krasnodar Stadium on Monday evening local time ahead of a showcase friendly against two-time world champions Argentina on November 14.
Having evaluated the twenty three players in camp during a recovery session on Sunday evening, Rohr got down to business in today's workout by dividing the squad into two groups.
Barring any last minute change of mind, ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel will return to the starting line-up as he played for the Team A; young Chelsea product Ola Aina got the nod from Rohr to join Team A.
Rohr also hinted that Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will be given an opportunity as he was preferred ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Francis Uzoho for the Team A.
Two players that started against the Desert Foxes in the form of Oghenekaro Etebo and Anthony Nwakaeme were part of the Team B in today's session, and this suggests they are likely to start on the bench against the South Americans.
It appears Rohr is borrowing a page from Jorge Sampaoli's book as the Argentina manager is planning to repeat several names in his starting eleven that faced Russia on Saturday.
All the twenty three Nigerian players in camp came through the training session unscathed and are all available for selection on Tuesday.
