Javier Mascherano Criticizes Argentina After Humiliating Defeat To Nigeria
Published: November 15, 2017
Argentina skipper against Nigeria Javier Mascherano has criticized his team following their humiliating 4-2 loss to Nigeria, saying that they had a very bad performance in the second half.
The Barcelona defender was one of the targets in the social networks for his poor performance against the Super Eagles, especially after he was embarrassed by Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi in the build up to Nigeria's fourth goal.
''The four goals were a sample of what we were today. We were not as intense as they, before this physically very strong team, they passed us over," Mascherano told TYC sports.
"We disconnected, when you give it back and want to resume, it's late. It's not a matter of three or four-man defense.''
Argentina had conceded two goals in Jorge Sampaoli's first seven games in charge of the national team before yesterday's meeting at the Krasnodar Stadium.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi (2) and Brian Idowu wrote their names on the score-sheet against the South Americans.
