Iwobi Non-Playing Sub As Arsenal Ease Past Stoke City
Published: April 01, 2018
Arsenal made light work of Premier League opponents, Stoke City in a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a Pierre Emerick Aubameyang double and another effort from Alexandre Lacazette.
Super Eagle Alex Iwobi was named among the Gunners substitutes on return from international duty.
Arsenal had won their last fifteen home games against Stoke City but found the Potters a tad more resilient on the day, failing to capitalise on a string of first half chances that came their way.
The hosts first real chance of the game fell to Danny Welbeck after 56minutes following some good link up play with Mesut Ozil but the Englishman's volley went wide of the near post.
Nacho Monreal would be next to threaten for Arsenal with a curled shot towards the bottom left corner but it is well covered by Stoke goalkeeper, Jack Butland.
The breakthrough would eventually arrive for Arsene Wenger's men 16 minutes from time, Ozil wriggling his way into the Stoke box only to be brought down by a late challenge by Bruno Martins Indi, paving way for Pierre Aubameyang to step up and send Butland the wrong way from the spot.
Aubameyang added another for Arsenal in the 86th minute after a corner had deflected as far as the Gabonese at the back post, powering a low shot beyond the outstretched legs of Butland and into the bottom right corner to make it two.
Alexandere Lacazette sealed off the win from the penalty spot yet, rolling home after he was brought down with a rash tackle from Stoke's Ndong Ndiaye as Arsenal recorded consecutive league wins since November.
Alex Iwobi was a non playing substitute throughout the game.
