Ligament injury Rules Shrewsbury Town Nigerian Captain Out Of EFL Trophy Final
Published: April 08, 2018
Shrewsbury Town's Nigerian captain Abu Ogogo was missing from the match day squad as The Blues narrowly lost 1-0 to Lincoln City in the final of the EFL Trophy staged at Wembley on Sunday, April 8.
The former Arsenal youth-teamer suffered a medial ligament injury in training few days before the showpiece game and initial prognosis is that the midfielder will not kick a ball again this season as he is expected to undergo surgery.
Ogogo was suspended for four matches after receiving a red card in Shrewsbury Town's 1-1 draw with Northampton in the League One on March 20 but was cleared to face Lincoln City as the ban does not apply to the Checkatrade Trophy.
Without the 28-year-old in the Shrewsbury Town squad, they have lost two out of their last four games, including today's game at the National Stadium in London.
After 40 games in the division, they sit third on the table with 81 points are are guaranteed at least a playoff spot.
The future of Ogogo will certainly be a hot topic in the off season as his contract will run out on June 30, 2018.
The 28-year-old had stops at Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge prior to his move to Shrewsbury Town in 2015.
