Iceland Star Finnbogason Warns Nigeria, Group D Foes: We're Going Out To Win
Published: April 23, 2018
FC Augsburg's Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason has sent a warning to Nigeria and their other Group D opponents at the 2018 World Cup, Argentina and Croatia, that they can cause an upset in Russia.
The Nordic country has done this before, holding champions Portugal to a 1-1 draw, and beating England en-route to the quarterfinals of the 2016 European Championship.
Iceland qualified for the World Cup after topping a group that contained Croatia, Ukraine, Turkey, Finland and Kosovo.
''It's great because I have six or seven of my best friends in the squad. We're like a big family, you can see that because we fight for each other," Finnbogason told the official webpage of the Bundesliga.
"If we're playing England, Brazil or Croatia, we're going out to win. Some people think we might be mad to think like that, but it's in our DNA."
Before Nigeria wrap up group play against Argentina, they will trade tackles with Iceland at the Volgograd Arena, Volgograd on June 22, 2018.
Gylfi Sigurðsson (Everton), Magnússon (Bristol City), Aron Gunnarsson (Cardiff City), Birkir Bjarnason (Aston Villa), Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson (Burnley) and Jón Daoi Böðvarsson (Reading) are the UK-based stars in the Iceland squad.
