'A lot of pain' - McKenna provides injury update on Akpom pre-Queens Park Rangers
Published: October 31, 2025
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna remains optimistic about Chuba Akpom’s availability for the clash against Queens Park Rangers, despite the striker suffering a knock last weekend.
The former Arsenal forward sustained a shin injury against West Brom after a tough challenge from Ousmane Diakite, forcing him off the pitch.
The knock sidelined him from a few training sessions during the week, raising doubts about his fitness for the trip to Loftus Road.
However, speaking at his pre-match conference, McKenna expressed confidence that Akpom could be fit to face the Hoops.
"Chuba was a really heavy impact injury, a lot of swelling, a lot of pain," he was quoted as saying by East Anglian Daily Times.
"He missed a few days training, but hopefully come Saturday, he'll be ready to be involved in the squad."
The 30-year-old joined the Tractor Boys on loan during the summer transfer window after a difficult spell with Ajax, aiming to rediscover his best form.
However, Akpom has yet to make a significant impact, going nine league appearances without a goal or assist.
With Sam Szmodics sidelined by injury, Akpom will be hoping to shake off his knock and feature in Saturday's clash against Queens Park Rangers.
