Official: Ebuehi's First Words As A Benfica Player As Lisbon Giants Celebrate Transfer Coup
Published: May 19, 2018Portuguese setup S.L. Benfica have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi from Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag on a five-year contract.
With the right-back's contract with ADO Den Haag set to run out in June 2018, several European teams were interested in his signature and he has revealed that he did not have to think twice before choosing Benfica because of their pedigree in European football.
''Benfica is a great club with excellent conditions. It is known all over the world. The fact that they are always on the big stage was very appealing to me. In fact, it was very easy to choose Benfica,'' said Ebuehi to Benfica's official website.
''I also know that in recent years they have been a champion and have a tradition in Europe. It's a great club.
''From me, fans can expect work. I want to help the team fight for their goals.''
The 22-year-old could be on the plane to Russia on June 11 after he was named in Nigeria's 30-man preliminary list for the World Cup by manager Gernot Rohr.
''I hope I can play at the World Cup. It is the dream of any player. I hope to be in Russia,'' Ebuehi added.
The defender played for the youth teams of SV Hoofddorp, VV Young Boys and HFC EDO before he was acquired by ADO Den Haag in the 2013-2014 season.
