World Cup-Bound Griezmann, Godin, Diego Costa Not In Atlético 20-Man Squad To Face Nigeria
Published: May 21, 2018Europa League winners Atlético de Madrid have announced a 20-man roster for the upcoming friendly against the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday, May 22.
As previously reported by this website, some of their stars heading to Russia for the 2018 World Cup in the shape of Diego Godín, Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa and Sime Vrsaljko, have not been nominated for the trip by manager Diego Pablo Simeone.
Slovenia international goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who won the Zamora trophy on Sunday, is in the traveling party as well as Argentina netminder Axel Werner, Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, ex-Chelsea star Fernando Torres and Gabi.
Reserve team players Antonio Moya, Roberto Olabe and Juan Agüero have been named in the group.
Atlético Madrid beat NPFL All-Stars 2-1 in a pre-season friendly in August 2016, with Gaitán and Godin writing their names on the score-sheet.
