Arsenal's Balogun Takes His Tally For The Season To 22 Goals In All Competitions
Published: March 16, 2019
Prolific Nigerian striker Folarin Balogun took his tally for the season to 22 goals in all competitions after scoring a brace for Arsenal U18s in their 5-2 hammering of West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
Balogun played his fifth match for Arsenal's youth teams over the course of two weeks and made the starting line-up along with West Ham defender Joshua Okocha while goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo remained on the bench for the entirety of the match.
The 17-year-old doubled Arsenal's advantage in the 28th minute before he added further gloss to the scoreline in the 72nd minute.
The New York-born striker recently received a call-up to England U18s squad ahead of international matches against Japan, Czech Republic and Mexico, but has refused to rule out the possibility of playing for Nigeria.
Young winger Ryan Alebiousu played the last 21 minutes for Arsenal while Balogun was replaced in the 81st minute.
The Gunners sit atop the U18 Premier League standings southern section with 48 points from 18 games, four more than closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur, who have two games in hand.
