On as a substitute in the 80th minute, the Nigeria international had a chance to level the game after he was played in through on goal but dragged his effort wide of the mark.

Speaking post-match, Rodgers said : ''We had probably the best chance in the game with young Kelechi [Iheanacho], which unfortunately he didn’t take.

''It was just one of those games, but I’m very proud of the team. I think the performances that we’re starting to see now, especially against the big teams, bodes well for our future.''

Meanwhile, Leicester City have included two Nigerian starlets, Layton Ndukwu and Calvin Ughelumba, on their roster for this month's HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens competition in Hong Kong.
